Burnley, led by Belgian Vincent Kompany, secured access to the top flight of English football this Friday (Premier League), thanks to a 2-1 away win over Middlesbrough. Ashley Barnes and Connor Roberts scored for the visitors, while Chuba Akpom (from the penalty spot) pulled one back.
Driven by a streak of 19 games without defeat, Burnley leads the Championship (2nd English division) and is 19 points clear of third-placed Luton, with just six rounds to go (18 points in contention). Therefore, the team is guaranteed to finish in one of the top two positions, which means direct promotion.

Kompany, emblematic former defender and idol of Manchester City, was signed in 2022, when Burnley had just been relegated after six seasons in the elite.
With relegation, the club had to pay off a significant part of a loan and had to sell several important players for that.
Kompany built a team with many new faces, drawing on his experience in Belgium and Manchester City to attract players on loan.
