Porto wins classic comeback and reduces Benfica’s advantage at the top of the Portuguese

O Porto defeated the Benfica in the classic this Friday, at Estádio da Luz, and kept alive the dream of winning the title of Portuguese Championship. The team won the match 2-1, with goals from Uribe and Taremi, and reduced the rival’s advantage at the top of the competition.

Now, the Dragons reached 64 points on the table, while the Incarnates remained at 71. With seven rounds to go in the tournament, the distance between the teams became seven points.

This was Benfica’s last game before meeting forces with Inter Milanfor the first game of the quarterfinals of the Champions League. The first leg is scheduled for next Wednesday, at 4 pm (Brasília time), at Estádio da Luz.

On the other hand, Porto will have a free week to rest in order to face Santa Clara, for the 28th round of the Portuguese Championship. The match will take place next Saturday, the 15th, at Estádio do Dragão, at 4:30 pm.

How was the game?

Benfica didn’t take long to open the scoring and, with less than ten minutes, Gonçalos Ramos scored. Full-back Bah advanced on the right, to the bottom line, and crossed the head of the Portuguese, who climbed higher than the defenders to put his team at an advantage.

At 37 minutes, the Encarnados came close to extending the advantage, again with a submission by Gonçalo Ramos, but Pepe appeared to stop. Porto, then, left everything the same as at 44. Manafá crossed in the area and Pepê straightened it with his chest for Uribe, who caught it at first to equalize.

The team came to turn the game around, in extra time, with a shot by Galeno, but the goal was invalidated by the referee, who caught an offside in the play.

In the second half, Porto took advantage of their superiority on the field to turn the score around. In the 10th minute, Iranian striker Taremi crossed the ball to put the ball in the back of the net.
