Sergio Higuita prevails in the disputed stage of Amorebieta-Etxano

In the last intermediate sprint of the stage, he prevailed Roman Gregoire (Groupama-FDJ) and pocketed three bonus seconds, Mattias Skjelmose (Trek-Segafredo) was second and got two seconds, while Vingegaard took a bonus second after being third.
In the last slopes, about 9 kilometers from the finish line, there were attacks and the peloton was reduced to 22 cyclists; among themJon Izagirre (Cofidis), Michael Landa (Bahrain Victorious), enric mas (Movistar), David Gaudú (Groupama-FDJ), Matteo Sobrero (Jayco-AlUla), Simon Yates (Jayco-AlUla), Brandon McNulty (UAE Emirates), Sergio Higuita (Bora-hansgrohe), Skjelmose eta Vingegaard.
The stage was decided between the men of that group of 22, and in the final meters Sergio Higuita was the best. Andrea Bagioli (Soudal Quick-Step) was second and skjelmose third. The Basque Jon Izagirre finished seventh, Vingegaard tenth and Landa eighteenth.
After the conclusion of the fifth stage Jonas Vingegaard continues to lead the general classification, Mikel Landa is third at 13 seconds and Gaudu third to 31 seconds of the leader. Jon Izagirre is sixth at 34 seconds de Vingegaard.
