Brazil seeks a draw in the end, but loses Finalissima to England on penalties

England is champion of the Women’s Final. The team beat Brazil on penalties this Thursday, after a 1-1 draw in regular time, at Wembley Stadium, in London, and raised the trophy for the first edition of the tournament.

Richarlison, striker of the Selection, was present in the confrontation. The player, who defends the Tottenhamhad already accompanied the women’s team training, posed for the photos and secured a place in the stands to watch the decision.

England opened the scoring through Toone midway through the first half. Brazil was only tied in the additions of the second stage, with Andressa Alves, but did not manage to get the better of the penalties.

The Finalissima is a dispute between the current champions of Eurocopa and Copa América. The Brazilian national team carved a vacancy in the decision after winning its eighth Copa América, in December 2022, against Colombia. The game ended 1-0, with a goal by Debinha, from the penalty spot.

England, in turn, reached the competition after beating Germany 2-1 in extra time in July last year.

It was the fourth time Brazil and England met. The first was in October 2018, in a friendly match. The English won 1-0. The following year, in February, the teams played for SheBelieves and the scenario was practically the same, with England winning, which incidentally took the tournament title. On the scoreboard, the result ended 2-1.

The third time England were on the field with Brazil was in the same year, but in October. However, the team managed to win by 2-1 on this occasion.

Brazilian team with difficulties and English domain

England had possession of the ball practically from the beginning to the end of the first half. The Brazilian team suffered from passing errors and found it difficult to create goal chances.

Until at 13 minutes the English arrived with danger. Lucy Bronze received the pass in the area and finished for the target with a bomb, but goalkeeper Lelê managed to fit the defense.

At 22, England took danger. Stanway received a pass close to the penalty area and tried to surprise the goalkeeper, but Lelê was safe on the ball and saved again.

After 35 minutes, nervousness began to take over the athletes. Brazil needed only one goal to take the decision to penalties, however the team failed in the last pass of the plays and in the finalizations.

And hope was decreed in the 47th minute, already in extra time. Andressa Alves, number 9, took the goalkeeper’s leftover and scored for the national team to tie.

Georgia initiated the charges and converted. Adriana then hit at half height and followed the same schedule. In the second charge, Maya hit the left corner and Lelê took it. On the Brazilian side, Tamires sent the same corner and Mary also defended.

In the sequence, Rachel Daly kicked on the right and made the second for England, while Rafaelle wasted for Brazil. Alex went to the next kick and scored. Kerolin, with category, scored the goal and left the Selection alive. On the fifth kick, Kelly converted and crowned the England title.
