Russian Nashville players Trenin and Afanasiev took part in a rally in support of LGBT people
Russian Nashville Predators players Yakov Trenin and Yegor Afanasiev took part in a rally in support of LGBT people. It is reported by The Tennessean.
The action took place before the regular season match of the National Hockey League (NHL) against the Vegas Golden Knights. All of the Nashville players wore rainbow jerseys to the pre-match rollout.
Previously, several Russian players, Ivan Provorov of the Philadelphia Flyers, Ilya Lyubushkin of the Buffalo Sabers and Ilya Samsonov of the Toronto Maple Leafs, did not wear rainbow uniforms. In addition, the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers and Minnesota Wild refused to participate in the promotion.
Later it became known that the NHL thought about revising the holding of actions in support of LGBT people after the clubs refused to participate in them. League commissioner Gary Bettman felt that this distracted from the very essence of the action, which eventually fades into the background.
