The RFU said that they are in contact with UEFA and FIFA on the issue of the return of Russians to tournaments
The communications service of the Russian Football Union (RFU) responded to the statement of the President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Aleksander Ceferin about the return of Russians to international tournaments. It is reported by “Sport-Express”.
The RFU said that they continue to contact UEFA and the International Football Federation (FIFA) as part of a working group to form a roadmap for the return of Russian teams and clubs to competitions. “The complexity of solving this problem is obvious. Negotiations are ongoing,” they stressed.
Earlier, on April 5, the head of UEFA said that before the end of the special military operation (SVO), it would be difficult to change something in the issue of allowing Russian teams to compete. He added that in any case, this decision remains with the executive committee of the organization.
On February 28, 2022, FIFA and UEFA excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. Domestic teams do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team was deprived of the opportunity to compete for reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
