Team Great Britain boycott the World Boxing Championship due to the admission of the Russians
The UK team is boycotting the World Boxing Championship because of the admission of Russians and Belarusians under their national flags. This was reported on the website of the Boxing Federation of Great Britain.
The UK announced that the decision of the International Boxing Association (IBA) contradicts the position of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the participation of athletes from these countries. “This further increased the distance between the IBA and the Olympic movement,” they considered.
Earlier, the British team missed the women’s world championship due to the participation of Russians in it. Against them, as well as associations in the United States, Canada, Sweden, the Czech Republic and New Zealand, boycotting the tournament, the IBA opened a disciplinary case.
On October 5, the IBA allowed boxers from Russia and Belarus to participate in international competitions under the auspices of the organization. Athletes are allowed to compete under national flags, and if they win, the national anthem will be played.
The World Boxing Championship will be held from April 30 to May 14 in Tashkent.
