Russian wrestlers admitted to international tournaments

The united world of wrestling allowed Russian athletes to participate in international tournaments

The Executive Committee of the United World Wrestling (UWW) decided to allow Russian athletes to participate in international tournaments. It is reported by TASS.

In a statement, the Federation of Greco-Roman, freestyle and women’s wrestling says that the Russians will compete in a neutral status. It is noted that the athletes were admitted subject to the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participating in tournaments.

The UWW suspended Russian athletes on March 2 last year. In addition, the tournaments that were supposed to be held in Russia in 2022 were canceled. The same sanctions were imposed on Belarus.
