Anita Wlodarczyk said that without the Russians, the European Games will be held in the spirit of a fair fight
Three-time Olympic hammer throw champion Anita Wlodarczyk praised the exclusion of Russians and Belarusians from participating in the 2023 European Games. The words of the Polish athlete are quoted by Inside The Games.
According to the athlete, the decision will have a positive effect. βIt is important that athletes from Russia and Belarus do not come to Poland to compete, thanks to this, the European Games will be held in the spirit of fair play, calm and peace,β Wlodarczyk said.
The 2023 European Games will take place from 21 June to 2 July. The competition will be hosted by Krakow.
On October 16 last year, the decision of the European Olympic Committee on the admission of the national teams of Russia and Belarus to the tournament became known. βI will give a very clear answer: under the current circumstances, the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes is impossible,β said the president of the organization, Spyros Kapralos.
