Former world champion Eric Morales has announced that Gennady Golovkin has taken a break from his career.
Kazakh boxer Gennady Golovkin decided to put his career on pause. This was reported to the YouTube channel Izquierdazo Boxeo by the former world champion, Mexican Eric Morales.
Morales is coaching his compatriot Jaime Munguia and is considering the Kazakhstani as a possible opponent for him. “From what I’ve heard, Golovkin has taken an indefinite hiatus. If he comes back, we’ll know about it. Therefore, right now we are thinking about this fight, ”added the ex-champion.
On March 10, it became known that Golovkin relinquished his WBA Super middleweight title. Erislandy Lara from Cuba became the new owner of the belt.
Golovkin became WBA champion in April 2022. Then he defeated the Japanese Ryota Murata. The meeting ended with a technical knockout in the ninth round.
The 40-year-old Golovkin has 42 wins (37 of which by knockout), two losses and one draw. In February, he also relinquished his World Boxing Federation (IBF) world title.
