Rangers legend Anders Hedberg criticized NHL leadership for treating Russians
New York Rangers legend Anders Hedberg has criticized the leadership of the National Hockey League (NHL) because of the attitude towards Russian players. His words are quoted by Expressen.
Hedberg said he had sent a letter to NHL commissioner Gary Bettman asking about the future performance of the Russians in the league. He confirmed that they are “watching the situation”. Nothing more. And what can he say? They didn’t do anything at all, which is really frustrating as hell, ”said the ex-hockey player.
At the start of the 2022/2023 season, 50 Russian players were playing in the NHL. On February 4, ten of them took part in the League All-Star Game. In particular, the captain of the Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin, together with his son Sergei, performed a bullet.
In October 2022, two-time Stanley Cup winner Dominik Hasek called for NHL executives to resign over their stance on Russia. He said that Bettman and his deputy Bill Daly showed disrespect to the Czech Foreign Ministry by allowing Russian players to play in the NHL pre-season in Prague.
