Metallurg to fire head coach Vorobyov after being knocked out in the quarterfinals of the KHL playoffs
Hockey club “Metallurg” will fire the head coach Ilya Vorobyov. This was announced by the first vice-president of the Magnitogorsk team Sergey Laskov at a press conference following the results of the 2022/2023 season.
Laskov said that the contract with the specialist will be terminated on April 30. “Due to the fact that we played unsatisfactorily, and we always set big and specific goals, we didn’t stay on the same result, but worsened it,” he explained the decision.
Metallurg failed to reach the semifinals of the playoffs of the Eastern Conference of the Continental Hockey League (KHL). The team was eliminated in the quarterfinals, losing to Avangard Omsk with a score of 0-4 in the series.
In the 2021/2022 season, Metallurg reached the final of the Gagarin Cup, where they lost to CSKA Moscow.
