The goals of the game
The first half was dominated by the home team. Manchester United felt the absence of Casemiro in the midfield and had great difficulty in building plays, as well as in marking. Newcastle reached the goal with danger a few times, but failed to score.
In the second stage, after a lot of trying, Newcastle finally managed to open the scoring. At 20 minutes, Bruno Guimarães received it inside the area and crossed with great class to the second post. Saint-Maximin headed over the second post and darted into the middle of the six-yard box, where Joe Willock was well positioned to deflect on goal.
Manchester United’s defeat was sealed in the 43rd minute. Tripier took a free-kick from the right into the area and Callum Wilson climbed between the opposing defenders to deflect with a header. The ball even touched the foot of the beam before going in.
