Real Madrid overwhelms Valladolid with Benzema’s hat-trick and Rodrygo’s show for Espanyol

After stumbling through spanish championshipo Real Madrid won again in the competition this Sunday. For the 27th round, the Merengues ran over Real Valladolid 6-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu, with goals from Rodrygo, Karim Benzema, Asensio and Lucas Vázquez.

The victory keeps Real Madrid 12 points clear of the leaders Barcelona. Now with 59 points in the competition, the team led by Carlo Ancelotti is turning its efforts to revert the result against its rivals in the Copa del Rey. For the semifinal, the Merengues face Barça on Wednesday, at 4 pm (Brasília time), at the Camp Nou, and need to win by at least 1 to 0 in order not to be eliminated after regular time.

Real Valladolid, on the other hand, will end the round very close to the relegation zone. The team, which belongs to former player Ronaldo Nazário, was in 16th place, with 28 points, but could still lose a position until Monday. The team returns to the field next Sunday, to face Mallorca at home.

The goals of the game

Real Madrid’s rout began in the 22nd minute of the first half. After the hosts regained possession of the ball, Asensio received it in midfield and shot towards the edge of the area, where he played for Rodrygo to arrive. With a crossed kick, the Brazilian opened the scoring.

Benzema then needed just six minutes to score three times. At 29, Vinicius Jr. he went up to the marker on the left and gave a great cross to the attacker, who headed the ball towards the goal. At 31 minutes, the Frenchman made a beautiful individual move at the entrance to the area and scored a great goal, with a finishing placed in the drawer.

Not content with just one great goal, Benzema even scored one more before the break. Rodrygo crossed from the bottom line on the right and the number 9 appeared free in the small area. In the second half Real Madrid scored again in the 28th minute. Rodrygo received it inside Asensio’s area and returned it for the midfielder to finish. The Spaniard hit the left corner and saw the goalkeeper fall to the opposite side. In the final stretch, at 46 minutes, Lucas Vázquez scored his and ended the rout, 6 to 0.
