Wimbledon fans banned from displaying the Russian flag

Fans at Wimbledon will be banned from displaying the Russian and Belarusian flags

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), which organizes Wimbledon, spoke about the rules of conduct for fans at the 2023 tournament. This was reported on the website of the organization.

“The tournaments will have a zero tolerance policy for the display of any flags, symbols or other actions in support of Russia and Belarus by any person on the courts, including tennis players and spectators,” the message says.

On March 31, it became known that the LTA lifted the ban on participation in Wimbledon 2023 for Russian and Belarusian tennis players. It was clarified that athletes will be able to compete in the tournament only in a neutral status and only after signing a “declaration of neutrality”.

On February 18, it was reported that the LTA could be deprived of the opportunity to hold tournaments of the Association of Tennis Professionals and the Women’s Tennis Association if it again bans Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in competitions under its auspices. In addition, the organization was threatened with a fine. Players from Russia and Belarus missed Wimbledon 2022 by decision of the organizers.
