The Itzulia ha modified the routes of the 3rd and 5th stage, as announced by the organization of the Basque race, through a note, this Friday, March 31. The reason for changing the routes of the mentioned stages is to ensure the safety of cyclists.
The changes affect the mileage of each of the two stages that are modified, as well as the departure times and of arrival of both days. So, in the 3rd stage, the one on Wednesday, April 5, starting in Errenteria and finishing in Amasa-Villabona, the peloton will have to travel, finally, 162.2 kilometers, instead of the 153.9 that were initially planned; therefore, the stage will mean an effort of a little more than eight kilometers for the runners, who will leave Errenteria at 1:26 p.m., instead of 1:39 p.m. (the neutralized start will be at 1:12 p.m.). hours). The winner will cross the finish line in Hika between 5:18 p.m. and 5:42 p.m., according to the new schedule provided by the organization.
In the 5th stage, which will be held on Friday, April 7, the new route presents one and a half kilometers less than the one initially prepared: it goes from 165.9 to 164.5 kilometers. The start of Amorebieta-Etxano will be at 1:23 p.m., a quarter of an hour after the neutralized start, two minutes after what was first announced. The arrival of the winner will thus take place between 5:18 p.m. and 5:42 p.m., which will be when we find out which rider wins the Amorebieta-Etxano finish line.
