The French Football Federation has banned referees from pausing matches for Muslim players
The French Football Federation (FFF) has banned referees from pausing matches for Muslim players during Ramadan. It is reported by RMC Sport.
It is noted that these breaks do not comply with the provisions of the FFF statute. “Any political, ideological, religious or trade union speech or manifestation is prohibited,” the organization said in a statement.
Earlier on March 21, Sky Sports reported that the referees serving the matches of the English Premier League were asked to introduce pauses during the evening games of the championship for Muslim football players. Muslim players will be able to take fluids, special energy gels and supplements. Later, the Russian Football Union expressed their readiness to discuss the introduction of appropriate pauses in Russia.
In 2023, Ramadan will begin at sunset on March 23 and end on April 21 with Eid al-Fitr. During the month, Muslims refuse food and water during daylight hours.
