Hervé Renard took over on Thursday as the new head coach of the French women’s football team until August 2024, replacing Corinne Diacre, who was sacked on March 9, the French Football Federation (FFF) announced.
Renard (aged 54), former Saudi Arabia coach in world Cup 2022 in Qatar and twice champion of the African Cup of Nations, with Zambia in 2012 and with Côte d’Ivoire in 2015, he had never led a women’s team until now.

Her mission will be to make France shine in the Women’s World Cup, scheduled for July 20 to August 20, in Australia and New Zealand, in addition to preparing the Olympic team for the Paris 2024 Games.
Renard said goodbye to the Saudi national team last Tuesday, after the defeat in the friendly against Bolivia (2-1). In Qatar, the Asian team caused a sensation by beating Argentina, who would later become champions of the tournament, in the first match of the group stage.
The experienced coach replaces Corinne Diacre, who was sacked by the French federation after some of the country’s best players withdrew from the national team and threatened not to return unless there were changes in the team’s leadership.
