The head of the RFU Dyukov said that the organization is betting on a return to matches in Europe
The head of the Russian Football Union (RFU), Alexander Dyukov, spoke about the prospect of moving to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Dyukov said that everything is theoretically possible, but the organization is betting on a return to matches in Europe. “We continue to work. We do this seriously, every day, we don’t play the fool, ”he added.
Earlier, the RFU discussed the possibility of moving to the AFC, but no final decision was made. It was noted that the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) opposed this initiative.
On February 28, 2022, the International Football Federation and UEFA excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. Domestic clubs do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team was deprived of the opportunity to compete for reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
