The NOC of Belarus expressed disagreement with the IOC criteria for the admission of athletes to tournaments
The National Olympic Committee of Belarus commented on the criteria of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international tournaments. This was reported on the website of the department.
Belarus stated that they consider the recommendations of the IOC as an attempt to correct the discriminatory decision of 2022 and find a way out of the current situation. At the same time, they expressed disagreement with the ban on the use of state symbols, participation in team competitions and belonging to law enforcement agencies. The NOC called the decision discriminatory.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be admitted to the competition in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participating in tournaments. It was noted that the ban on the use of national symbols, holding competitions in these countries also continues to operate.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the IOC. The decision on the participation of representatives of these countries in the 2024 Olympics has not yet been made.
