This Tuesday, the Croatia visited and beat Turkey 2-0 in the Euro Cup qualifiers. Midfielder Mateo Kovacic scored both goals in the first half.
With the victory, the Croatians reach four points and lead Group D. Turkey, on the other hand, continues with three points, drops to third place and is momentarily outside the classification zone for the next phase.
Turkey’s next match for the Euro Qualifiers is against Latvia, away from home, on June 16th. Croatia returns to the field for the semifinal of the League of Nations against the Netherlands, away from home, on June 14.
The game
The match started with Croatia controlling the ball possession, but with Turkey taking more danger and creating the best chances. In the 10th minute, the Turks scored after a corner kick, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Patiently, the Croatians approached the opponent’s goal and finally opened the scoring at 20, with Kovacic.
After opening the scoring, Croatia improved in the match and extended the advantage in the first half stoppage time, once again with Kovacic, this time taking advantage of the rebound.
In the final stage, Croatia remained superior, created chances of danger with ease and came very close to the third goal in some opportunities. In the last half of the second half, the pace of the visitors dropped and the scoreboarded to 2-0, even with Turkey managing to create well in the final stretch of the match and forcing Livakovic to make good defenses.
