In Germany, the possibility of a boycott of the 2024 Olympics was ruled out in case of admission to the tournament of Russians
The head of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), Thomas Weikert, spoke about the possible participation of Russians in the 2024 Olympic Games. His words are quoted by Sportschau.
Weikert ruled out the possibility of a boycott of the tournament if athletes from Russia and Belarus were admitted to it. “At the moment, we cannot imagine the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes. But if the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decides otherwise, then certain requirements must be imposed on athletes from these countries, ”he said.
Earlier on March 28, it was reported that Russia could be banned from participating in team sports at the 2024 Olympics. The restriction may apply to sports such as football, handball and volleyball.
On January 25, the IOC announced that it was considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes. It was noted that only athletes who did not support the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will be able to get permission to compete in international tournaments.
