More than 300 fencers condemned the FIE and the IOC for the return of Russians to international tournaments

More than 300 fencers have turned to the International Fencing Federation (FIE) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the return of Russian athletes to international tournaments. It is reported by Reuters.

318 athletes, 286 of whom are active, condemned this decision and called it a catastrophic mistake. They emphasized that it was adopted with complete disregard for the opinion of the athletes, and demanded that it be reconsidered.

On March 10, it became known that the FIE decided to re-admit Russian and Belarusian athletes to tournaments. The return of athletes to the competitions will take place no earlier than mid-April 2023. After that, Germany and Finland, in protest, refused to hold competitions with the participation of Russians.

Russian and Belarusian athletes have been temporarily suspended from competitions under the auspices of the FIE since March 2022 on the recommendation of the IOC.
