Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and Real Madrid full-back Ferland Mendy complained about the confusion the press vehicles are making. The two players were mistaken for Manchester City full-back Benjamin Mendy, accused of rape and sexual assault.
“It is sad to see that in 2021, both in France and in England, for some, black people do not have distinct names or faces. These photo ‘errors’ sound like jokes but are highly symbolic. It’s not that complicated to differentiate between two faces, especially when the football shirt is a valuable help”, wrote Edouard on Instagram.

City full-back Benjamin Mendy faces six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The facts involving the player happened between October 2020 and August 2021.
Mendy was placed in pre-trial detention at the end of August. City, a club that has defended since 2017, announced a suspension minutes before the police announced it.
To sign the athlete, one of the great hopes of French football a few years ago, the English club paid €60 million (R$371 million currently) to Monaco. At the time, it was the most expensive hiring of a defender in history.
