On the night of this Monday, the groups of the Copa Sudamericana. In an event held at the entity’s headquarters, in Paraguay, Conmebol drew the teams into the eight groups, and the Brazilian clubs already knew their opponents.
Champion of the competition in 2012, São Paulo will meet Tigre, against whom it won the title that year, in a final marked by the withdrawal of the Argentine team after a fight between the teams in the changing rooms. Both make up Group D, which will also have Deportes Tolima, Corinthians’ executioner in the 2011 pre-Libertadores, and Academia Puerto Cabello, from Venezuela.

Santos appears in Group E, which will have as one of the opponents the traditional Newell’s Old Boys, from Argentina, in addition to Blooming, from Bolivia, and Audax Italiano, from Chile. Against the Bolivian team, Peixe will have no problems with altitude, as Santa Cruz de La Sierra is located at around 400 meters above sea level.
Another São Paulo team competing in the tournament is Red Bull Bragantino, which fell into Group C, along with Estudiantes (ARG), Oriente Petrolero (BOL) and Tacuary (PAR).
In addition to the trio, Brazil will be represented by four other teams in the Copa Sudamericana. Botafogo, América-MG, Goiás and Fortaleza are in contention for the continental title.
With the groups defined, the Copa Sudamericana starts next week, between the 4th and 6th of April. There will be six rounds, and the two best teams in each group will advance to the round of 16.
