9-year-old Ecuadorian Antonella Puyo, champion in the 2021 BMX Pan American Cup, which took place last Saturday in Lima, is preparing to participate at the end of this month in the United States Grand National, where cyclists from various countries will compete .

Puyo, who started in the sport at the age of six with a pedal bike, achieved the gold medal in the 9-year-old ladies category of the Pan American, organized by the Pan American BMX Commission (COPAB) and the Pan American Cycling Confederation (COPACI) organized the 2021 BMX Pan American Cup.

The medal was contested with cyclists from Peru, Brazil, Colombia and Chile.

“I am passionate about this sport, I like everything in bicicross: speed, jumping,” the athlete, who began participating in international tournaments at the age of six, told Efe this Wednesday and has already raced on tracks in Belgium, Brazil, United States, Colombia and Peru.

Puyo has lost count of the medals won: “There are many, I don’t even have the count.”

“I feel very happy because every time I am getting closer to my greatest dream, which is to be four times Olympic cycling champion, and since you can go to the Olympics from the age of 16, I have already counted and I want to win at 16, at 20 , at 24 and at 28 ″, commented the little girl who is in the fourth grade of the school.

The cyclist trains two hours a day on the La Carolina park track, in the north center of Quito, and after her participation in the Grand National of the United States (the most important cup in that country), she will return to Ecuador to play the final, in two categories, the 2021 National Cup.

“The bicycle is my favorite toy, I really enjoy every training session and every competition. Also, something that I love is the possibility of meeting and making friends in various countries, ”said the athlete, who has trained in Colombia and the United States.

Puyo assured that his family is the basis for meeting his sporting goals: “Thanks to them I can count on everything for my training”. (D)
