The head of the Australian NOC, Matt Caroll, called for the admission of Russians to the 2032 Olympic Games
The head of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Australia, Matt Caroll, made a statement about the performance of the Russians at the 2032 Games. His words are quoted by The Canberra Times.
Caroll supported the admission of the Russians to the tournament, which will be held in Brisbane from July 23 to August 8, 2032, and noted that the NOC supports the position of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in this. “Remember the boycott of many countries of the 1980 Olympics? Many years later, the Prime Minister of Australia said that the country had made a mistake,” he said.
On January 25, the IOC announced that it was considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes. It was noted that only athletes who did not support the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will be able to get permission to compete in international tournaments.
At the end of February 2022, many sports organizations banned the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in tournaments on the recommendation of the IOC. In some disciplines, such as motorsport, cycling, tennis, boxing, MMA and chess, the Russians continue to play in a neutral status.
