Former footballer of the Krylia Sovetov club of the Russian Premier League (RPL) Denis Kovba died at the age of 42. This was reported on the website of the Samara club.
The club expressed condolences to the athlete’s family. On November 2, the footballer’s wife Nadezhda said that Kovba was admitted to intensive care in critical condition with a confirmed coronavirus.
As part of Wings of the Soviets, Kovba played 260 matches and scored eight goals. Together with the team, he won bronze medals in the Russian championship, reached the final of the country’s Cup and played in the UEFA Cup. The midfielder also has several matches for Khimki, with which he played in the National Football League (FNL). The footballer finished his career in 2012.
On November 14, the five-time European judo champion Anatoly Bondarenko died in Moscow. Vice-President of the International SAMBO Federation Sergei Eliseev said that the cause of the death of the former athlete was the consequences of the coronavirus.
