The organizers of the world boxing championship explained the mistake with the Russian anthem

The organizers of the world boxing championship said they mixed up the anthem of Russia by mistake

The organizers of the 2023 World Boxing Championship in Indian New Delhi explained the situation with the fact that they mixed up the Russian anthem during the award ceremony for Anastasia Demurchyan. It is reported by TASS.

The organizing committee said that the organizers of the tournament included a fragment of the First Concerto of Pyotr Tchaikovsky by mistake. “We immediately corrected this oversight and turned on the national anthem of Russia,” they stressed.

Demurchyan won the gold medal of the World Boxing Championship in the weight category up to 70 kilograms. She defeated Australia’s Frances Scott via unanimous decision.

Several countries are boycotting the World Cup because of the participation of Russians and Belarusians in it. The International Boxing Association (IBA) has launched a disciplinary case against the heads of the national federations of the countries who decided to skip the tournament. The case was opened against the heads of the associations of the United States, Canada, Sweden, the Czech Republic and New Zealand.

On October 5, the IBA allowed boxers from Russia and Belarus to participate in international competitions under the auspices of the organization. Athletes are allowed to compete under national flags, and if they win, the national anthem will be played.
