Tennis player Garbiñe Muguruza has won the WTA Masters Cup, after winning the final by 6-3 and 7-5 to the Estonian Anett Kontaveit. Muguruza, up to now fifth in the world rankings, has climbed to third place with this victory.
The WTA Finals have brought together the eight best players in the world in Guadalajara (Mexico).
It is the most important triumph of the tennis player in recent years, after winning Roland Garros in 2016 and Wimbledon in 2017.
Kontaveit came out ahead on his first service game, despite two double faults.
Fast, with movements throughout the court and 63% points won with the first service, Muguruza pressed and in the third ‘game’ he broke, however he could not confirm and the duel was equalized 2-2.
Muguruza set the course for the set in the seventh game; With the scoreboard 30-40, Kontaveit crashed a ball into the net and Muguruza made the break that gave him the victory in the first set.
For the second, Kontaveit played more patiently, betting to keep his serve, saved a ‘break’ in the sixth game and broke in the seventh to take a 4-2 lead that increased to 5-3 with his serve.
Muguruza recovered with everything against it, maintained her service game and broke in the tenth game, which put pressure on the rival, who disappeared in the twelfth ‘game’, in which Muguruza swept to prevail 7-5.
