The International Olympic Committee (IOC) commented on the extension of the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes of the International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics). It is reported by RIA Novosti.
The IOC said it took note of World Athletics’ decision. They drew attention to the fact that participation in international competitions is in the exclusive competence of each international federation.
On March 23, World Athletics announced the restoration of the membership of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (VFLA). At the same time, the suspension of Russian athletes from competitions under the auspices of the organization was extended. Thus, they will not be able to take part in the qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
In 2015, the ARAF membership in World Athletics was suspended due to systematic violations of anti-doping rules by Russians. Russian athletes could compete at international competitions only after receiving individual permits and in a neutral status.
