Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB), chaired by Qatari Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani, one of the potential candidates to buy the Manchester Unitedhas made a second offer for the English club, confirmed this Wednesday to AFP a source close to the transaction.
Candidates had until 9 pm (England time) today to raise their bids made in February.
The source, who did not provide further details on the amount offered, said Sheikh Jassim was “confident” in having made “the best offer”.
According to the British press, another great potential buyer of United, the British multimillionaire Jim Ratcliffe, owner of the petrochemical group Ineos and of several football clubs, such as Nice from France, also submitted an improved proposal.

In February, these two candidates had evaluated the club in the first round of offers at US$ 5.5 billion (approximately R$ 29 billion), an amount below what the current owners, the Glazer family, who expect to earn US$ 7 .3 billion (R$38.4 billion), a record for a sports club.
According to several press vehicles, the offers presented this Wednesday would exceed US$ 6.2 billion (R$ 32.6 billion), which would already represent a record figure. But the future of the process remains uncertain. “The next steps will depend on the seller. We do not expect an immediate response,” said the source close to the transaction.
It is also possible that other offers were sent to the American bank Raine, responsible for the sale. Several investment funds showed interest in buying shares in the club, without the need to have a majority of its shares or control.
It is also not ruled out that the Glazers, at least Joel and Avram, co-presidents of Manchester United, remain at the head of the club, despite their unpopularity among fans, and manage to attract investments, mainly in infrastructure.
