Barcelona beats Real Madrid with goal in stoppage time and opens 12 points in Spanish

In a match valid for the 26th round of the Spanish ChampionshipBarcelona received Real Madrid at Camp Nou and won by 2 to 1. Araújo opened the scoring with an own goal, while Sergi Roberto and Kessié were responsible for the turnaround of the Catalans.

The confrontation was hot, with players from both clubs disputing the ball at all times of the match. However, despite the delivery, the duel between the biggest teams in Spain had few clear goal opportunities.

With the triumph, the Barcelona extended its advantage at the top of the competition. Coach Xavi’s men now have 66 points at the top of Espanyol. Real, who are in second place, are now 12 points behind their rivals. The defeat makes the Madrid team practically say goodbye to the title race.

The teams only return to the field in April, after the friendlies between selections. Barcelona will visit Elche on a Saturday (01/04). The next day (02/04), the Real Madrid will receive Valladolid.

The game

The first half was more possession of the ball by the home team, but without great chances created by the two teams. The best opportunities came from the feet of two Brazilians: Vinícius Júnior, for Real Madrid and Raphinha, for Barcelona.

After just nine minutes, Vini made an individual move on the left and crossed into the middle of the area. However, the ball deflected off Araújo’s head and tricked goalkeeper ter Stegen, ending up in the back of Barcelona’s nets.

Behind on the scoreboard, the Catalans circled Real Madrid’s area in search of a draw. Close to added time, de Jong adjusted for Raphinha at the edge of the area, who tried to finish on goal, but was blocked by Militão. In the spare, Sergi Roberto took advantage of the rebound and kicked, leaving everything the same in the duel.

Even with difficulties in creating, Barcelona continued to press in the search for the turnaround in the second half. At 22 minutes, Busquets lifted the ball in the area and Lewandowski tried to score with a volley, but he did not hit the ball and it went over the goal. Seven minutes later, Raphinha countered with Sergi Roberto and took a risk on the edge of the area, forcing Courtois to palm the bottom line.

Real only offered danger again after the arrival of Rodrygo. The Brazilian started a move that resulted in a goal by Asensio, in the 36th minute of the second half. However, after reviewing the VAR, the Spaniard was marked offside in the play.

Already in additions, Barcelona finally got the turnaround. After a beautiful back-heel by Lewandowski, Balde crossed the area to Kessié, who only had to push it into the back of the net and declare victory for the Catalans after lights out.
