President of the International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics) Sebastian Coe voiced the position of the organization’s council regarding the status of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF). TASS reports.
Coe said the World Athletics Council is recommending an extension of ARAF’s suspension. The final decision on this issue will be made following the results of the association’s congress, which will end on November 18.
In September, World Athletics received € 2.1 million. Part of this amount is due to fines paid to ARAF. The funds received amounted to about 15 percent of the organization’s annual income.
In June 2020, ARAF was threatened to be expelled from World Athletics. The Russian side was ordered to pay a fine of $ 6 million.
ARAF was suspended in 2015 due to systematic anti-doping rule violations. Restrictions prevent Russian athletes from competing in international competitions without the need to obtain neutral athlete status.
