Milonov responded to the IOC’s recommendations on competition with transgender people

State Duma Deputy Vitaly Milonov responded to the position of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the admission of transgender athletes to competitions among women. It is reported by Sport24.

The IOC has published a set of guidelines for national federations, stating that it is up to them to make the final decision on the admission of transgender people to participate in women’s competitions. Milonov criticized the committee’s position and called the transgender athletes crooks and crazy. He noted that athletes with acute mental illness are prohibited from participating in the Olympic Games.

“It turns out that they are calling our girls to compete with these crazy mutants,” he said. Milonov also proposed to establish special competitions for transgender people. He also ruled out the possibility of transgender athletes appearing on Russian national teams.

Earlier on November 17, the IOC presented recommendations on the admission of transgender athletes to competitions among women. They state that athletes must be admitted regardless of gender or gender identity, and detailed eligibility criteria must be developed by the national federations themselves.

New Zealander Laurel Hubbard became the first open transgender person to compete in the Olympics. At the Tokyo Games, the weightlifter did not manage to complete a single successful attempt, and after the competition, Hubbard retired.
