Infantino responds to criticism after re-election as FIFA president

Infantino said he received more than 200 letters in support of his candidacy ahead of the election

Gianni Infantino responded to criticism after being re-elected as president of the International Football Federation (FIFA). His words are quoted by RMC Sport.

“I don’t understand why some journalists are so angry. You don’t have to love me, adore me. I ask you to stick to the facts. When we talk about corruption, we are talking about serious allegations,” the functionary said. He added that he received more than 200 letters in support of his candidacy ahead of the election.

Infantino also spoke about the financial policy of the organization. “Someone said that FIFA is football’s Robin Hood, but we don’t rob the rich to give to the poor. We profit and give to the rich and the poor,” he said.

March 16 Infantino was elected for the third time as president of FIFA. His new term of office runs until 2027. He has led the organization since February 26, 2016. In June 2019, he was re-elected for a second term.

In July 2020, a criminal case was initiated against the functionary. He was charged with incitement to abuse of power, breach of official secrecy and obstruction of the investigation.
