Manchester City sells young midfielder to Southampton for €77m

O Manchester City made official, this Wednesday, the sale of Roméo Lavia, who signed with Southampton until the end of the 2026/27 season. According to the newspaper The Guardianthe transfer of the 18-year-old midfielder was concluded for 12 million pounds (R$ 77.7 million).

Also according to the publication, City also secured, through the contract, a buyback clause for 40 million pounds (R$ 259 million). So, if Pep Guardiola’s team wants to count on the player in the future, it must pay that amount to reacquire him.

“I am very happy to join this team. I think the club has a very good culture with young players, so I’m really happy to be here. When I heard about Southampton’s interest, I was excited because there is an opportunity for young people to develop as much as possible and I’m very excited.”

Lavia was revealed at Anderlecht-BEL and signed by Manchester City’s under-18 team in 2020. He played just two matches as a professional during the 2021/22 season, one for the FA Cup and the other for the League Cup.

In this transfer window, City had the departure of the experienced Fernandinho, who went to Atletico-PR. However, on the other hand, the club signed fellow midfielder Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United.
