Alexia Putellas, midfielder for the Spanish women’s soccer team and current Ballon d’Or, was injured this Tuesday during a training session prior to the European Championship in England and suffers a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee.
“The tests carried out on the Spanish international on the afternoon of this Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at King Edward VII’s hospital in London, have confirmed a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee,” reported the Royal Spanish Federation of Football (RFEF).
The Barcelona soccer player will be out for several months and will miss the relevant continental event in English territory, where she had concentrated much of the attention when she was considered this year as the best player in the world thanks to the granting of several awards. At the moment, the name of her replacement is not known.

Putellas started as the main reference of the Spanish team and faced the tournament after having become the first Spaniard to reach one hundred games with the national team, something that happened in the last previous friendly against Italy.
His absence adds to two others that have already occurred since Jorge Vilda announced the previous list. One is that of forward Jenni Hermoso, who left the concentration in the first days. The other is that of Salma Paralluelo, who came to integrate the list of the twenty-three selected definitively, but fell from it shortly after.
Spain will debut next Friday at Stadium MK in Milton Keynes against Finland, and will also have to face Germany and Denmark in the group stage.
