Ecuadorian striker Jordy Caicedo (born in Machala on November 18, 1997) is already in Monterrey where he will play for the Tigres of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León. The attacker was transferred by CSKA Sofia, which would have rejected offers from Turkey and Argentina to retain their striker in Bulgaria. After an absence of several weeks and without hearing from the tricolor, which the CSKA leadership called “unprofessional”, there was an agreement with Caicedo’s businessman for him to join the Tigres, his new team.
“The Ecuadorian arrived in Monterrey on Tuesday after being confirmed on Monday as a reinforcement of Tigres, being that there he made some statements on his arrival at the Sultana del Norte and said that the greatness of the feline group was what convinced him to reach the table. auriazul, a team in which he wants to team up with (André-Pierre) Gignac”, says the Monterrey newspaper Future about the arrival of the machaleño.

That newspaper reproduces Caicedo’s statements given to several media outlets at the Monterrey International Airport. He was asked, among other things, the reason for leaving Europe to play in Mexico and “he admitted without hesitation,” according to Future, who chose Tigres for “its greatness.” He immediately added: “My goal is to help the team as best I can, if it is with goals, much better and become champions” of the 2022 Apertura, a contest that has already begun.
Greater commercial value
The commercial value of the Tigers is greater than that of CSKA, according to Transfermarkt, a website specialized in this aspect: $70.37 million for the Mexican institution and $12.63 for the Bulgarian institution.
Caicedo added: “I feel very good, happy, and I come to work. I’m ready to team up with whoever the coach says, whether he’s with (the Frenchman) Gignac or with anyone”. The Ecuadorian will have Mexican Miguel as coach Louse Herrera and in addition to Gignac, other of his teammates will be the Argentine goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán, the Venezuelan midfielder Yeferson Soteldo, the defender Jesús Angulo, who plays for the Aztec team; and forward Florian Thauvi, who was part of the French team that won the 2018 World Cup.
Caicedo said that he is ready to make his visiting debut against Mazatlán, for the second date of the Apertura (Tigres lost at home 3-1 with Cruz Azul) on the opening day. “Yes, I’m fine, I’ve been training and we’ll see what happens. In Bulgaria I did very well thanks to the work and we will try to do the same here”, declared Caicedo.
The tricolor signed with the Tigers until June 2026 and according to the portal Transfermarkt the pact between CSKA and the Monterrey squad was closed for $4.4 million. (D)
