“Not likely, but possible”, says Klopp on qualifying for Champions League quarter-finals

The technician of LiverpoolJürgen Klopp, admitted this Tuesday that “it is not likely, but possible” to overcome the round of 16 of the Champions League against Real Madrid, after the defeat of Reds 5-2 in the first leg.

“Although there is only a 1% probability, I would like to try, so we are here to play against very strong opponents and try to win,” Klopp told a press conference ahead of the second leg at the Santiago Bernabéu.

“It’s possible, not likely, but possible and we’ll see what happens,” added the Liverpool coach, who recognizes that his team will have to play a great game to advance to the next stage. “It’s difficult, obviously, because we’re not in a very good situation, but we want to play this game,” continued the German coach.

“It’s clear that we’re not saying to Madrid ‘watch out, we’re here’, that’s not the situation, but we’re here to try to win the game,” he declared.

For that, “we will have to play extremely well, a normal or good game will not be enough. We will have to give the maximum tomorrow and that is what we will try to do”, said Klopp.

The manager believes Liverpool should not change their stance ahead of the first leg at Anfield, as “I don’t see a problem with our tactical plan. We just don’t defend well enough against counterattacks in the second half.”

On Wednesday, “we’ll have to be very active with and without the ball. We’ll have to press very well in midfield. We’ll have to attack and try to avoid counterattacks,” he explained.

Liverpool visit Real Madrid this Wednesday, at 5 pm (Brasília time), at the Santiago Bernabéu, in Madrid.
