Bitci Baskonia beat Red Star 93-74 this Tuesday at the Buesa Arena in the match corresponding to the tenth round of the Euroleague. The debut on the bench of the new coach Neven Spahija ended the team’s losing streak in this competition and gave it the victory after four consecutive defeats.
The Baskonia players entered the game well, scored the first basket (3-0) and reached the halfway point of the first quarter with an advantage (12-8). Later, the Vitoria team increased their income (21-12), although in the final stretch of the quarter the Red Star was able to reduce their disadvantage (25-22).
A 12-0 start to the second quarter opened the way to victory for Baskonia. The visiting team could not find a way to penetrate the defensive system of the team led by Spahija and they were not able to stop the rival. Thus, the break was reached with a result of 55-32.
In the resumption, the Red Star was able to stop Baskonia’s scoring success, but the Basque team was far superior and did not provide facilities for the rival to score. Those of Spahija found themselves comfortable and the Belgrade team closed the gap at the end of the third quarter (68-53).
However, Bitci Baskonia did not suffer in the fourth quarter. He was once again far superior to a rival who was not able to tighten the score. The Vitorian team liked each other in the final stretch of the match and took the victory (93-74).
