“Lenta.ru”: Kostomarov’s condition is improving, but preparations are underway for amputation
Media reports of Olympic ice dance champion Roman Kostomarov improving and preparing for amputation are correct. A source familiar with the situation told about this in a conversation with Lenta.ru.
“And this and that, unfortunately, is correct information. The fact is that the final amputation, so to speak, was planned a month and a half ago, and there was preparation for it. But she was forced to reschedule due to the fact that there was a microstroke, ”said the interlocutor of Lenta.ru.
Now Roman’s condition is really improving.
“It’s not what it is now [состояние] continues to regress. He really feels better. But this operation, unfortunately, was planned for a long time,” concluded a source familiar with the situation.
On March 13, Izvestia, citing a source close to the situation, reported the reason for the doctors’ refusal to carry out another amputation to the Olympic ice dancing champion Roman Kostomarov. According to the publication, doctors believe that his weakened body is not yet ready for a new surgical intervention. They noted that there is a risk of cardiac arrest.
On March 10, Sport-Express reported that the skater was gradually recovering, but doctors did not rule out the possibility of another operation to remove tissues that had died due to sepsis.
On March 7, Mash reported on his Telegram channel that Kostomarov was developing sepsis on his arms and legs. It was noted that doctors cannot stop the infection, so there is a threat of several more amputations. However, later a Sport24 source denied this information.
On March 4, it became known that the Olympic champion was gradually coming out of a coma. On February 26, it was reported that Kostomarov had a microstroke, after which he was put into a drug-induced sleep for 72 hours.
Roman Kostomarov was hospitalized on 10 January. The Olympic champion was diagnosed with left-sided pneumonia in combination with influenza B. According to Telegram channels 112 and Mash, Kostomarov’s left foot was amputated, as well as several fingers on both hands.
