Fan who sent racist abuse to Brentford’s Ivan Toney banned from UK stadiums

The Newcastle High Court convicted Antonio Neill on Monday of sending racist abuse to Brentford striker Ivan Toney after the player scored twice in a win against Brighton in October 2022 for English Championship.

Antonio Neil sent the racist messages through Instagram and Toney shared the attacks received on his profile. Following the exposure, Northumbria Police launched an investigation. In January of this year, the 24-year-old man was found guilty of the offences.

This Monday, Antonio Neil was banned from attending any football game in English stadiums for three years and received a suspended sentence that could lead to two years in prison if he commits another crime in the next four months.

Antonio Neil lives on Robert Street in South Shields in North East England. The punishment he received applies in all major divisions of English football such as Premier LeagueChampionship, League One, League Two and the National League, in addition to matches for the English national team.

“Discrimination has no place in society, whether in our communities or online. It will not be tolerated and we will do everything we can to bring offenders to justice,” said Northumbria Police Superintendent Scott Cowie.
