The head of WADA Banka said that he had little faith in the independence of the anti-doping system in Russia
The head of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Vitold Banka, expressed distrust of the anti-doping system in Russia. His words from the organization’s annual symposium in Lausanne are quoted by TASS.
“I must say that faith in the real independence of the anti-doping system in Russia remains very weak,” he shared. Banka noted that the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) will remain ineligible until all conditions for reinstatement are met.
On December 11, Banka announced his disappointment in the sanctions of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against Russia. He stated that he was unhappy that not all WADA requirements were approved.
In December 2019, the WADA executive committee decided to take away the right to host the Olympics and World Championships from Russia, and deprive Russian athletes of the flag and anthem for a period of four years. The reason was the deprivation of RUSADA of the status of compliance.
In December 2020, CAS approved the imposition of sanctions for a period of two years. In November 2022, it became known about the decision of WADA to extend the suspension of RUSADA.
