MP Zhurova urged not to discuss the possibility of participation of Russians in the Olympic Games-2024 until the decision of the IOC
It is premature to talk about the participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Olympic Games and the conditions for participation. It is necessary to wait for the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This is how the Olympic champion, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Svetlana Zhurova assessed the situation in an interview with Lenta.ru.
Earlier it became known that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) got acquainted with a letter from the British authorities, in which the country’s government called for increased pressure on the committee on the issue of admitting Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions and the 2024 Olympic Games.
In response to the letter, the IOC expressed its hope that the British authorities would respect the autonomy of sport. It is not up to governments to decide which athletes can compete in which international competitions.
Zhurova urged not to pay such close attention to this topic, but to wait for the decision of the IOC.
When there is a decision, then we will already discuss critical issues: what they will offer, what conditions, whether there will be a flag

“Now we can say whatever we want, and then in the eyes of people we will be talkers. Because no matter what I say now, it will not correspond to what will happen in a couple of months, when the IOC makes a decision. By the way, this is what the IOC is calling for, including the UK,” the parliamentarian said.
The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, is annoyed that the British are boycotting, writing letters, inciting sponsors, because there is no decision on the participation of Russian athletes yet, the interlocutor of Lenta.ru noted.
“In Russia, too, there is no need to ask about it now. There will be a decision, and we will understand what our athletes will do. Let the athletes prepare in peace. And then we’ll see how it turns out, ”concluded Zhurova.
