In a balanced game, Atlético de Madrid beats Girona with a late goal

This Monday, the Atletico Madrid visited Girona at the end of the 25th round of the Spanish Championship and won by 1-0. Álvaro Morata scored the winning goal after lights out at the Montilivi Stadium.

With the result, Atlético remains in third place, now with 48 points, one more than Real Sociedad, which comes fourth. On the other hand, Girona is in the middle of the table, in 12th place, with 30 points conquered.

Atlético de Madrid’s next match is against Valencia, at home, on Saturday, at 5 pm (Brasília time). Girona travels and visits Rayo Vallecano also on Saturday, at 12:15 pm.

The game

Girona started the match surprising and suffocating Atlético de Madrid, despite not creating many real goal chances. Gradually, the visiting team improved in the game, began to occupy more of the opponent’s area and the duel was balanced. After 45 minutes, Atlético even created more than Girona in all, but the score remained unchanged.

Right at the beginning of the second stage, Atlético de Madrid could have had a penalty in favor scored, but, in the VAR review, the field referee identified an offensive foul before the infraction. In the 23rd minute, the scare was Girona, who almost scored from midfield with David López and forced a great save from Jan Oblak.

When it seemed that the 0-0 was inevitable, Atlético scored in stoppage time, at 46 minutes, with Álvaro Morata and killed the game. Initially, the goal had been disallowed for offside, but VAR reversed the field decision.
