Mamiashvili said that the Chechen wrestlers included in the French team did not compete for Russia
President of the Russian Wrestling Federation Mikhail Mamiashvili praised the inclusion of Chechen athletes in the French national team for the 2023 European Youth Championship. His words are quoted by Match TV.
“These people were there. None of them have ever played for the Russian national team,” Mamiashvili said.
Earlier on Monday, March 13, the French Wrestling Federation announced that at the European Championship the country will be represented by a team consisting entirely of natives of Chechnya. The application includes Adam Bibulatov, Khamzat Arsamerzuev, Muhammad-Amin Sangariyev, Magomed Deliev, Rakhim Magomadov and Adlan Viskhanov.
The U-23 European Championship will be held in Romanian Bucharest. Competitions will be held from 13 to 19 March.
On March 3, the International Wrestling Federation excluded the Russian team from tournaments under its auspices. The organization also canceled the competition, which was supposed to take place on the territory of the country.
