The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has responded to the decision of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) to allow the Russian team to participate in tournaments. The statement of the press service of the organization leads TASS.
“The IOC has taken note of the decision of the FIE. Consultations with all stakeholders of the Olympic Movement are still ongoing. It is noted that the discussions are focused on the upcoming international competitions and do not concern the participation of Russians in the Olympic Games in Paris.
On March 10, Inside the Games reported that the FIE had decided to return Russian and Belarusian athletes to tournaments. Voting took place at an extraordinary congress of the organization. The return of athletes to the competitions will take place no earlier than mid-April 2023.
On March 2, 2022, the FIE temporarily suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in tournaments under the auspices of the organization.
