This Tuesday, the English Football League communicated a punishment to Derby County, a team led by Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney that plays in the second division of the country, for non-compliance with financial rules. The club lost nine points in the table, totaling 21. The team had already been penalized with a decrease of 12 points, and now has three negatives in the classification.
“The League’s objective with this process is to ensure that the principles of regulations were upheld for the good of all clubs. also considered the punishment guidelines as well as the club’s mitigation,” explained Trevor Birch, chief executive of the English League.

“Given the complex circumstances of the case and the various regulatory issues pending between the League and Derby County, the League is satisfied with the agreed outcome and the sensible approach taken by both parties in negotiating this outcome and with respect to the withdrawal of the appeal. . Our focus is to continue to work with the Joint Administrators to help them secure a long-term future for the Club,” added the chairperson.
In addition to the aforementioned sanctions, Derby County could still lose three more points, a punishment which is currently suspended. The club will have to fulfill an agreement by the end of the 2021/22 season.
In 17 games in the English second division, Derby County had won 18 points. Rooney’s team won three, drew nine and lost. With three negative points, the fight against relegation will be big, as the second-bottom ranked team has 11 points.
