The contract of the head coach of the Russian national team Valery Karpin with the Russian Football Union (RFU) is valid until March 31, 2022. Such a statement regarding the possible departure of a specialist from the national team was made in the organization, “Championship.com” reports.
The RFU recalled that the agreement concluded with Karpin and the team’s coaching staff initially contained a clause on automatic prolongation. It was supposed to happen if the Russian national team entered the play-off matches of the qualification for the 2022 World Cup.
Earlier on Tuesday, November 16, sports director of the RFU Andrey Leksakov spoke about the possible departure of Karpin from the Russian national team. He urged to support the specialist.
Karpin allowed leaving the team on November 15. The specialist stressed that it will take him a week to make a final decision. A day earlier, the Russian national team lost to Croatia (0: 1) and missed the chance to directly qualify for the 2022 World Cup. Karpin’s team will fight for the right to play in the World Cup in the play-offs.
